Delving into Marine Collagen

By now you hopefully know a little bit about what collagen actually is, and what it can do for the body. If not – check out our blog post to get the lowdown on this trending supplement! https://www.oceangreenorganics.com/post/marine-collagen-the-supplement-you-never-knew-you-needed

But, what’s so special about marine collagen? Read on to find out!

Marine collagen is becoming increasingly popular, as opposed to other types such as bovine or porcine collagen. It comes from the skin of fish, and has a few different benefits over other types. For one, many view it as a more sustainable alternative. Around 11.7 million tons of unused fish parts are discarded annually during processing. Instead of wasting these unused fish skins and scales, the excess materials can be used for collagen – a more economic and environmentally friendly option.

Besides being preferable for those who don’t eat red meats, marine collagen is also known to have very minimal side effects, if any. In comparison, it’s estimated that around 3% of the population are at risk of developing an allergic reaction to bovine collagen.

The biggest benefit of marine collagen is that it is the most bioavailable of all other types of collagen. What does that mean? Well, bioavailability refers to the body’s ability to actually use the collagen once you take it. After all, what’s the point in taking collagen supplements if the body doesn’t actually get a chance to reap the benefits of it!? Marine collagen is absorbed up to 1.5 times more efficiently than other types, which is a big difference. This is due to the smaller particle size of marine collagen, which allows for a quicker and easier distribution of collagen peptides to the skin, bones and joints. Because of this efficiency, it’s also considered the best source for your skin.

We’re proud to be one of the few New Zealand brands to produce marine collagen. The collagen we use is sustainably sourced from wild New Zealand fish. It’s fully traceable, which is hugely important to us. Customers should be able to know everything that's in the product they're taking, and where it's come from. Also, our marine collagen supplements come in a vegetable capsule which is super easy to take. Collagen creams can only go so far, and the real results are seen when we take collagen internally.

Another thing we’re proud of – there’s nothing fishy about the taste of our marine collagen! Customers of other brands often report collagen being too powdery and leaving a bad taste in their mouths. With us though, our marine collagen is combined with New Zealand grown blackcurrants for a divine and completely natural taste!

Marine collagen is clearly a trending supplement as the body of research surrounding its’ benefits is continuing to grow. Ocean & Green’s products reflect our love for the nutrient rich ocean and all of its incredible natural resources – and our marine collagen is no different!
